General Care Tips for Carpets, and Upholstery

You have a considerable investment in your carpets, area rugs, and upholstered furniture. It makes good sense, therefore, to take good care of them so they last as long as possible and continue to add comfort and beauty to your home.

Carpet Care
Dirt, not daily wear and tear, is the single largest contributor to the early demise of carpets. While not visible to the eye, carpets are like a magnet for oil lint. pollen and pet hair.

Vacuum regularly to remove dirt dust and grit. Dust is enemy number one, and the longer it stays, the more deeply it becomes embedded. We recommend an upright vacuum with a beater bar for best results. Use mats at entrances. It's amazing how this will help protect your carpeting.

Experts recommend professional carpet cleaning at least once a year, depending on traffic.

Regular cleaning will help preserve the carpet fibers, and keep the colors brighter. Many households call a professional cleaner after pollen season, while others prefer to clean their carpets just before the year-end holiday season.

Upholstery Care
Upholstered furniture also needs to be regularly vacuumed to remove surface dust and grit. If possible, rotate and reverse cushions on couches and chairs. Fading and wear will be less noticeable.

To prevent dirt from damaging the fabrics, have your upholstered pieces professionally cleaned every 18 to 24 months.
