F.A.Q'S.
How
long does
it take
to dry?
[BACK]
12-24 Hours
is an average.
Some dry
in three
hours. It
depends largely on
the moisture
of the
house. Low light
usually means
moist. Bright and
sunny is
usually a
dry house
and the
water in
the carpets will
evaporate quickly. A
fan will
greatly reduce drying time
provided it
is moved
often.
What
Should I Do
To Prepare? [BACK]
Take all small things like; magazine racks, plants, toys,
clothes, tools, trash cans, baskets and decorative art items from the carpet and place on non-carpeted area.
What
about the
furniture should I move
i t? [BACK]
If
you are willing and ABLE feel free to move it to an area that won't be cleaned.
If you want to clean under the furniture and there isnt a place for it dont move
it.
We will clean under it. We clean many places in a day and nothing takes more
time than to
do it your way, no matter how good your method. We have a method that will
allow us to clean in a minimal amount of time. There are a number of engineers
who
would be willing to give us a run for our money but we don't have time to read
the blue-
prints. We dont charge more for furniture moving unless it is like a museum,
large frame
beds with tricky frames and headboards or china cabinets and bookshelves are to
be moved.
25% more for Museum care or unusual amount of furniture. We dont mess with TV
consoles
loaded with wires and hi-fi we clean around it unless the cart is obviously
stable
( equally for Entertainment centers ).
How
is Upholstery
Cleaned?
[BACK]
The same way carpet is cleaned with the
truck-mounted steam cleaning unit powered
down a little and an Upholstery tool. Different soaps and pre-sprays may vary
with
different fabrics. 6-10 hours drying time without fan. one or two hours drying
with a fan.
In the sun outside with cushions on a sheet will dry in 30min. to one hour and
will kill
all bacteria.
What
is Scotchgard
and is
it worth
the cost?
[BACK]
Teflon like a no
stick frying pan...Its worth it. It makes a barrior between the carpet and
what you spill on the carpet. It allows you to clean stains without the use of
soap,
thus eliminating residue.
Will
Scotchgard keep
stains from
appearing on my
carpet?
[BACK]
No. The main benefit is the easy cleaning with no return of spots
that soaps cause.
Another benefit is the protection of the wear of the carpet that scotchgard
provides.
Will
stainmaster carpet need Scotchgard?
[BACK]
Tricky
question. Scotchgard and Stainmaster are two different companies. Dupont
makes stainmaster and Carpets so they decided to combine them. The protection is
the same the names are changed to protect the innocent. It wears off and should
be
reapplied. The Manufacturer will put a clause in the contract of stainmaster
that voids
the warranty of the carpet if other than a stainmaster Technition cleans tha
carpet.
Here is why. They get extra money from the warranty and people generally dont
call
them on it and if they do they say it was ruined by inproper cleaning techniques
.
What I would do is not get the warranty and simply spray scotchgard on when you
install the carpet and after every cleaning. Do the Math ...the extra cost to
get
Stainmaster the extra cost for the warranty add up to hundreds of dollars.
You could have fresh scotchgard every year for life at that rate and use whoever
you want as a
cleaning technition.
What
do you
think of
Chem - Dry?
[BACK]
I think it is substandard
and ineffective for typical residents. It was developed for Hospitals and
businesses which are open 24 hours seven days a week. This schedulemakes steam
cleaning
difficult due to the high volume foot traffic which isever-present. This method
of neccessity has its
drawbacks. It leaves a high residue filmon the carpet which attracts dirt and
pastes it down where
a vacuum would normally be able to remove it.This forces the cleaning intervals
to be at 3-6 weeks,
a price a hospital must pay due to Laws governing cleanliness ( this goes for
Day-Care as well).
The residue is a living hell for most steam cleaners due to its adhesive quality
it is very difficult to remove the film of chemicals left behind. If you fell
the carpet of a previosly Chem-Dry cleaned
carpet you will feel it is hard and not supple. If you swirl your hand on it
round and round wil pressure you will find a polished hand that is shiny from
this residue. If all this isn't sinking in go to the phone book and look at the
ratio of dry-cleaning carpets cleaners to all the rest (steam cleaning). The Dry
Cleaning method is easy for cleaners to make a business due to low machinary
costs and they can make back the initial investment the same week. Its hard to
compete with sucessful methods like
steam cleaning but some people (usually older people who fear Pneumonia )still
like it
